The Journey Starts Here…
It’s almost time for your student to join the 180 Youth Program as a Confirmation student for the 2013 class. Below is some important information for the 2012-2013 class.
Kick-Off
Our 180 Fall Kickoff will be on August 12th at 10:30 a.m. in the 180 Youth Area. This will be the first Sunday morning that new 6th graders are invited to Sunday morning activities. Parents are also invited and you will be able to register your student for activities, retreats, and the Confirmation Program. You’ll also be able to learn more about the program and the exciting things we have planned for the year.
Confirmation Meet and Greet
We will also have a “Meet and Greet” just for Confirmation students and parents on August 12th at 4:30 p.m. in the Youth Area. We will have registration materials available then as well and will specifically go over the Confirmation program and yearly activities for 6th grade students. You will be able to meet the Youth Staff and Confirmation teachers for the year.
Confirmation Classes
Our Sunday morning Confirmation classes meet at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. throughout the school year. These classes constitute the largest and most important part of the process. We ask that students attend at least 80% of classes in order to be confirmed.
Confirmation Class Laser Tag Event
We want our class to get to know each other and bond together. What better way to do that than shoot each other with laser guns! We’ll making a trip to Laser Quest on the evening of September 7th from 6:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Cost is $25 and includes laser tag, dinner, and transportation. Register online using the link at the top of the page. Paper registrations will be available in August.
Friend in Faith
The “Friend in Faith” program is our Confirmation mentor program. You and your student choose someone that will serve as a mentor and guide for them through this process. They will meet through the school year to discuss faith and life. More info on the Friend in Faith program will be given at the Confirmation Meet and Greet and there will be a Friend in Faith program meeting on September 30th at 4:30 p.m. in the 180 Youth Area.
Confirmation Retreat
The Confirmation Retreat is one of the most special and rewarding parts of Confirmation. Many older youth say it was one of the most important and defining spiritual experiences of their life. This year’s Confirmation Retreat will take place March 1-3, 2013 at Lake Junaluska, NC. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend as well.
Confirmation Banquet and Confirmation Sunday
The weekend of Confirmation is a special time when friends and family join together to celebrate the completion of the program and the inclusion of students as full members of the church. The banquet will be held on April 6th and is catered by The Varsity. The rehearsal immediately follows. Confirmation Sunday is April 7th at both 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. traditional worship services.
Confirmation Registration
You may register online using the link at the top of this page or on August 12th. There are no space limits on the program, so you can register anytime before September and be fully included in the program.
Teachers Needed!
Confirmation can’t happen without parents who help lead our confirmation classes. We give you all materials and lessons and guide you through the process. Parents who participate find it to be a meaningful part of the confirmation journey. Please contact a member of the youth staff if you are interested in teaching or participating as a volunteer.
We are very excited about the chance to be in ministry with you and your student. Confirmation is the start of a journey when your student will make a declaration of their faith. It is an important and holy time in their lives and we look forward to making it a special one.
