UMCH Foster Care books in DUMC Library

Thinking of opening your heart and home to a child in need? DUMC now has a shelf full of books that the United Methodist Children's Home encourages all foster parents to read. Visit our church library to check one out today. (Even if you aren't fostering a child, some of these books are GREAT resources for any parent; and a few that are good reads for children and teens too).

United Methodist Children's Home needs your help!

If you have ever considered helping a child in need, the United Methodist Children's Home needs your help! Please consider babysitting, respite care and/or fostering a child today. Information & orientation sessions are held the first Monday of every month. We are looking for the right persons to start the process impacting the life of a child...whatever that should be. Every individual is different, every family is different, but there are hundreds of children that need YOUR difference in their lives right now. Respite For Foster Families

We recently had three DUMC couples complete the United Methodist Children’s Home IMPACT training to become Foster parents. Many thanks to those who have supported the Foster Care Ministry with donations. If you are interested in assisting our foster families with babysitting, it’s a simple process to become approved. They would be thankful for an hour or two here and there to run an errand. AND/OR if you are interested in becoming a foster parent too, please contact Rosemary Watts at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to receive more info on our next orientation session. Orientation sessions are held the first week of the month.

Prayer Request

  • Pray for the 400,000 children in foster care in the U.S.
  • Pray for the foster families and the churches involved in foster care ministry.
  • Pray for the social workers, judges and everyone involved in child welfare across the country.
  • Pray that God moves on the hearts of individuals and ministries who are called to the ministry of foster care.

Lord, we pray for peace for every child in foster care across the nation.

"All your children will be taught by the Lord, and great will be their peace." Isaiah 54:13

Many children who enter foster care are filled with fears and worries—from their family problems to the issues of crime and unrest in the world. We must pray that they will grow in their trust in God and that the peace of God will cover them regardless of the surrounding circumstances.
