Reflections - Aug. 11, 2017

danby Rev. Dan Brown

Earlier this week, someone who was not able to be in Church last Sunday asked me, "So how did it go?" I replied, "I hope you've got about an hour." I was so excited I couldn't wait to explain.

Last Sunday, of course, we went to our new Sunday schedule. From my perspective, everything we hoped this new schedule would accomplish seemed to be happening.

The Contemporary Service was packed almost to overflowing. The Traditional Service was full. Many children and young people who typically did not go to worship were in worship. Many adults who typically did not go to Sunday School were in Sunday School. I received e-mails from Chancel Choir members who said they felt more like a participant in the worship service than they could ever remember. Those who attended the Morning Prayer and Communion Service loved the feeling of intimacy. One mother wrote to tell me how she was so moved by the service she attended, it brought her to the point of tears.

On a personal level, last Sunday was the first time I had ever been able to attend Plugged In (our K-5th Children's Sunday School Program) and it was great.

There are still a few wrinkles to be worked out, but overall, I had the feeling we were taking a significant step in continuing to be "one Church with multiple expressions of worship, rather than multiple churches under one roof."

All that to say, "Thank you." Thank you for being willing to make the adjustments in your personal schedules so this Church can be even stronger and more dynamic. You are making a difference!

See you Sunday, if not before!
