BOY SCOUTS

Boy-ScoutSBoy Scouts are comprised of youths from 11 to 18 years of age. Any boy is eligible who has completed the fifth grade or is 11 years old, or has earned the Arrow of Light Award as a Webelos Cub Scout but is under 18 years old. Boy Scout Troop 266 meets every Monday from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. in the Scout Lodge located on the church grounds. Scouting has been described as a game with a purpose. The game is fun and adventure in the outdoors. The purpose is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Scouting offers adventures young people enjoy, teaches them lifetime values and skills, and introduces them to leadership.

The Boy Scouts enjoy many wide and varied adventures on their quest towards the Eagle Scout Rank. These activities include a week each summer at one of The Atlanta Area Council's Summer Camps, or enjoying monthly weekend outings with such activities as Camping, Sailing, Mountain Biking, Climbing, Backpacking, Skiing, Canoeing, and many more.

Boy Scouts age 14 and older also annually embark upon such High Adventure Trips as SeaBase (sailing for a week in the Florida Keys), Northern Tier (canoeing, portaging, and camping from one of BSA's three Canoe Bases in Minnesota or Canada), or backpacking at Philmont (BSA's Scout Ranch in the Rocky Mountain near Cimarron, New Mexico).

CUB SCOUTS

Cub ScoutsThe Cub Scout program was adopted in 1930 by The Boy Scouts of America. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through the fifth grade (or of seven through ten years of age). Dunwoody United Methodist Church's Cub Scout Pack 266 is made up of Dens based on age/grade, which meet at least once a month to work on Cub Scout activities and achievements. The Pack is run by the boys' parents and we all strive to ensure that the boys have an enriching and fun experience with Scouting. Dens usually have six to ten active boys and meet as a group at various locations depending upon their activity, including parks, museums, fire stations, the Church Activity Center, and other interesting places. Our goal is to help the boys enjoy their journey through Cub Scouting, earning their various achievements along the way, working with each other and also helping the community.

We have Pack activities every month of the year, including:

  • Camping in the Fall and Spring
  • Leading the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade
  • Pinewoody Derby races
  • Blue and Gold Banquet (The Fella's Cake Bake contest)
  • ...and much more!
