Letter to the Parents

DUNWOODY CHILDREN'S CHOIRS 2010-2011 “We Are Family”

WELCOME TO A GREAT AND EXCITING YEAR

We cannot wait to get started because we have many exciting activities planned for the year. We encourage each of you to find a friend who does not have a church home and invite them to join us in choir. We would LOVE to have children who enjoy singing to join us this year. Yes, it is time again to begin a great year . We are excited about singing, sharing and praising God at Dunwoody. Cindy and Michelle are excited about all of the opportunities planned for the children this year and we hope each of you will join us.

CHOIRS AND AGE GROUPS

We ask that all parents respect the choir and ages this year. We feel that children need to be with singers their own ages. Their physical and musical needs are met when children are associating with the appropriate age. If you have any questions, feel free to email Ms. Cindy.

A NEW CHANGE OF SCHEDULING

Last year’s schedule was changed to accommodate families who come to Wednesday night dinner. We would love to see more families involved in Wednesday night activities. We encourage each of you to join us for the Wednesday night suppers.

CHOIR MOM/DADS

We are looking for parents who will help each week during choir practice along with other activities. These activities include snacks for Sunday morning worship when the children sing, accompanying children to the restroom during rehearsals, classroom management and other activities as they arrive.

WEDNESDAY REHEARSALS

Please try to have your singers in their places, ready to begin on time. All choirs will begin taking singers five minutes before choir unless there is another choir meeting during that time. Please do not bring your children any earlier to choir. This time is used for setup and administrative responsibilities. We request that you please let the director or a choir mom see you take your child when you pick them up on Wednesdays. This is for the safety of your children and the church.

Please encourage your child to go the restroom before rehearsals or singing in church.

There are multiple activities offered for students who are waiting for siblings in rehearsals. We encourage you to take advantage of the other activities on Wednesday night as well.

We ask that all parents and siblings wait outside the rehearsal room, except for choir moms/dads. (No siblings in choir room unless they are singing.) If you use a room for waiting, please make sure all children are supervised and all materials are left alone.

Wednesday nights are a busy time for us. If you have something you need to communicate with us, please try not to interrupt our choir rehearsals. Our time in these rehearsals is precious.

ABSENCE

If your child cannot attend a Wednesday night rehearsal, a scheduled Sunday morning worship service, or a special event, please let your director or choir mom know ahead of time. This helps with seating arrangement, etc.

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

Each choir is schedule to sing at the Sunday morning worship services throughout the year. Since both services are identical, we will be singing at both (9:00 & 10:30). The singers will usually need to be in the choir room by 8:30 with robes on. This is a very early time, and we encourage each of you to prepare your child for the importance of worship and their privilege of sharing in the services. Parents, please let your choir mom know what they will do after both services. Your choices are usually Sunday School, sitting with parents in the service, or parent pick-up. To keep from having a traffic jam in the sanctuary, we ask that you always pick up your child(ren) in our warm-up room after we sing.

If you would like to donate snacks for the worship, please bring them to room 101. We need breakfast bars and juice boxes. If your child has any type of allergies please let us know in order for us to accommodate them.

NOTE: LIL' LAMBS SING TWICE DURING THE YEAR – FAMILY CHRISTMAS CONCERT DECEMBER 6TH AND THE END OF YEAR CONCERT – MAY 5TH. THEY WILL NOT BE SINGING IN WORSHIP.

ROBES

On days the children will be singing in robes, please have your child wear “Sunday” (non-athletic) shoes. Boys should wear a light colored dress shirt; girls should wear a low collar that will fit under the robes. These robes are very warm-please avoid layering clothes underneath. Also, please avoid turtlenecks- they seem to choke choir members.

COMMUNICATION

We are trying very hard to make sure that we let each parent know what is going on through letter and emails. If someone other than yourself or your spouse will be picking up your child from choir, we suggest you do one of the following: call another choir mom for information about the letter, and/or stress to the individual picking up your child that they should make sure to receive ALL information distributed.

All information will be given to the child as a hard copy and will be sent to you via email. If you have any questions, please email Cindy or Michelle.

Please take time out of your daily schedules to pray for your child and the music ministry of DUMC. We want each of these children to understand their importance and their role in the worship services as we share throughout the year. We are excited about serving and worshiping with your children.
