The Jacksons’ Presentation on Their Missionary Journeys in Ghana – On July 13 at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. the Jacksons will be making a presentation on their missionary journeys in Ghana during both Sunday School hours in the Fellowship Hall. Make plans for your class to attend. This presentation is open to anyone who would like to hear about their experiences. Also, from 10:00-10:30 a.m. a short reception will be held in the back of the Fellowship Hall in their honor. Let's show our support by welcoming them home during this short visit. Save the Date: Wednesday, July 23, 6:00 p.m. – Our Summer Cook Out takes on an African theme, as we honor the Jacksons our African missionaries. We will enjoy some typical African dishes, including fried chicken. The Jacksons will teach us a little about Ghana. We will round out the evening by showing the movie, The Lion King, on the big screen in the Fellowship Hall. 

Hall of Famers will meet this Friday at 9:00 a.m. at the Hickory House.

Study of the Book of Psalms - Come join in the joyous Bible study of “Echoes of Faith: The Psalms” led by Dr. Evelyn Laycock October 13-16, 2008 at beautiful Epworth By the Sea on St. Simons Island, GA.  Dr. Laycock is a favorite Bible study leader among Methodists in the Southeastern United States. The Pryme Tymers will arrange for bus transportation to and from St. Simons Island if 50 people attend.  The cost, including transportation, is $344.85 per adult, double occupancy, and $430.05 per adult with one adult per room. Cancer SupportMonthly, members of DUMC and our community who are currently dealing with or have dealt with a cancer diagnosis come together to listen, to encourage, and to help each other through a very challenging time. If you or someone you know is currently dealing with the disease and could benefit from talking with others, please join us. The Concert Series at Dunwoody United Methodist Church presents Mary Ruth Solem in an organ recital which includes compositions by Barber, Larsen, and Leavitt. Please join us Sunday, July 20, at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary for this program featuring American composers.

 DISCIPLE and Short Term/Small Group Studies will begin after Labor Day. There will be classes for DISCIPLE I, II, III, and IV, Christian Believer, Companions in Christ, Psalms Short Course. Also there will be several short term classes  offered from a list we are considering of more than 50 topics, such as “Gracespace,” "Pay It Forward," or various book reviews, and others ranging from 1 week to 11 weeks. Nursing Home Ministry – Our purpose is to minister to DUMC members and their families who are in local nursing/retirement homes and assisted living facilities. If you have a loved one you would like visited on a regular basis or if you would like to be a visitor, contact Ann Brooks, Chairperson of the Nursing Home Ministry, at 770-235-4638.

Platelet or Blood Donors Needed – Paul Kiepper, a regular visitor to DUMC, is receiving a bone marrow transplant and could use your help as a volunteer platelet or blood donor. For more information call the Atlanta Blood Services at 404-459-8744.

Children's ministry
  • Biblical Cooking, July 9, 2:00-5:00 p.m. – It will be a fun and filling afternoon where the children will cook while learning Bible stories. The older elementary will have a Land of Milk and Honey cooking school.
  • Bold Children from the Bible, July 16, 2:00-5:00 p.m. – The children will travel from station to station learning about children from the Bible who were bold for our God. We will take a break for a snack of strength and a moonwalk and obstacle course that only a bold child of God could encounter!
  • Missions Day, July 23, 2:00-5:00 p.m. – The children will work on age appropriate projects for non-profit agencies in the Atlanta area. We will explain about where their projects are going and how they are helping others in our area!
  • Magic Day with Ken Scott, July 30, 2:00-5:00 p.m. – Ken Scott will perform for the children while they learn about the art of illusion. The children will go away learning that the ministry of Christ was not magic!

  • Hiking and Hang Gliding, Saturday, August 2 - Enjoy a morning of hiking at Cloudland Canyon State Park and then an afternoon of tandem hang gliding at Lookout Mountain Flight Park. The cost of the tandem hang gliding flight is $139. The hiking and fun of watching others hang glide is free!
