Youth Scholarship Program

The DUMC Church Council and the Youth Council approved a youth scholarship program for high school seniors.  In order to qualify for the scholarship, the student must be accepted into an accredited college and be active in church and youth program events.  The youth must participate in a certain number of church activities to earn points for the scholarship as well as write an essay on how the Church has influenced their faith during their teenage years.  The points will be tracked by the ministers in the youth program.  The individuals will be responsible for monitoring their own points and submitting their essays. Current High School seniors will be eligible for a scholarship in 2009 by earning 10 points and writing an essay.

The goal of this ongoing program is to enhance a youth’s Christian journey by encouraging participation in the church, thereby providing a foundation in Christ for their faith walk. Mentoring of younger students, attending mission trips, and other volunteer activities are all ways to gain points.  Sunday school, Sunday night 180°, or Wednesday night Thrive requires 70% participation.  The scholarship program is set up to be both attainable and objective. In 2009, the program will be primarily funded by the Spruill Foundation for Missions. Private donations throughout the year are also accepted.

For more information or to donate to the program, please contact Rev. Stephen Streett or the assistant youth ministers.
