SERVE on campus

Outreach to those in need in our community is an important part of Dunwoody UMC’s mission and vision. Our members are often joined by the community to serve in local mission projects and share God’s love with the least and lost. In local missions, we make a difference at home with projects ranging from assembling food packages at Foodstock to the annual DUMC Great Day of Service. Whether you are looking for a one-time volunteer opportunity or an ongoing experience, you can find many ways to serve others in our local mission projects.

Foodstock: Partnering With Rise Against Hunger

August 2025
The meal-packing event returns in August 2025. Dunwoody UMC continues to partner with Rise Against Hunger and support the mission of ending hunger around the world. To date we have packed 4.3 million meals for Rise Against Hunger. Our annual event will pack a container of meals (285,120 meals) to be distributed to an area of the world suffering from food insecurities. Plan to join us in August for our FoodStock event. Festival Traditions

November 2025
Dunwoody UMC kicks off the holiday season with Festival Traditions in November 2025. Have your annual family picture made with Santa and spend some time in our gourmet shopping for holiday goodies. Festival Traditions supports our annual Habitat for Humanity house. We’ll build our 35th Habitat house in 2026. This event helps to ensure we can continue our Habitat tradition next year. Look for sign-ups in September 2025.

Night to Shine

February 2026
Night to Shine, sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, is an unforgettable prom night experience, centered on God’s love, celebrating people with special needs. This event will be held in-person by host churches around the world simultaneously in February. Dunwoody United Methodist Church is excited to be a part of this worldwide movement that God is using as a catalyst to change how cultures embrace people with disabilities and to rally the church worldwide to honor their local community of people with special needs, ensuring they know they are valued and loved.

We hope you will join our team to make this an amazing night. We provide an amazing prom experience with the royal treatment for our Honored Guests. It all leads to the moment with each guest is crowned king or queen of the prom! We ask for your prayers for the people planning, volunteering, sponsoring and attending the event and that it serve as an illustration of God’s love for all His people.

Great Day of Service

March 2026
9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
The annual Great Day of Service is a local mission opportunity with projects for all ages and abilities. We organize hundreds of volunteers in 18 different mission projects. Most of the projects are at DUMC, such as assembling blessing kits for local charities or the family-friendly Potato Drop, which supplies food to local food pantries. While most of the projects are on campus, some projects are out in the community. This will be DUMC’s 34th Annual Great Day of Service event6

Serving Opportunities

Mission Mondays
Each June and July, DUMC volunteers gather to assemble lunch kits for Hope Atlanta. We prepare “SuperPacks” that provide a week of meals for children who typically receive a free or reduced-price lunch at school, but may not have access to lunch over the summer. This family friendly meal packing event provides needed support in our community. This is a great all-ages event and usually takes only an hour. Contact Rev. Garrett Wallace if interested. 

Medical Volunteers
Physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and physician assistants are needed to be “on call” during Sunday worship services. The time required is simply your commitment to be present at your preferred service on a Sunday you choose. Medical volunteers should be CPR trained and have acute care experience. Our ushers are CPR trained, and the church is equipped with automatic defibrillators. Contact Dr. Ruth Brown or Megan Cann, RN if interested.

Altar Guild
Ensure the chancel is properly adorned with correct paraments and prepare banners for each service. Straighten up and supply pew racks during the week. Contact Charlotte Turner if interested. 

Audio-Visual
Assist with audio-visual needs, operate cameras during worship, operate a sound mixer and direct cameras during worship and events. Training is available. Contact Sean Penn if interested. 

Acolytes
Older elementary children and youth (4th-12th graders) play an important role in the 11:05 a.m. Traditional worship services as they carry in the light of Christ each Sunday. Acolytes also assist in serving communion on the first Sunday of the month. Contact Elizabeth Lamback if interested. 

Chapel Worship Set Up
Volunteers are needed in the Chapel to assist with setting the table every Sunday for communion, offering prayers, as well as laundering the linens used weekly. Contact Rev. Kathy Brockman if interested. 
Dunwoody Kids Serving Opportunities
There are many opportunities to serve in Dunwoody Kids. For more information on the opportunities listed below, please contact us. Sunday School Small Group Leader, Wednesday Night Kids Helper, VBS Rotation Leader, Special Events Helper and Club 45 Helper. Contact Jennifer Dees if interested. 
Special Needs Ministry
Connected is a small group of individuals ages 14 & up with disabilities that meets at the church. We have two groups for 2024: Connected Community Fellowship & Connected Sunday School. Connected Community Fellowship takes place twice a month on scheduled Wednesday evenings. We share a meal, participate in a social activity, and engage in fellowship. Connected Sunday School is a small group Sunday school class focusing on life lessons & spiritual growth. This group is designed for individuals with special needs ages 14 and up! Click HERE to learn more. 

Visitation Ministry
Dunwoody UMC has a congregation filled with unique individuals with fascinating backgrounds and accomplishments. If you have an hour or so to spare each month to meet some of our members who may not be able to get to church anymore, you will bring joy and friendship to those you visit, and you will be blessed to meet them and to get to know them. Our Visitation Ministry is currently looking for friendly visitors who are willing to visit their assigned person(s) at least once per month and to stay in touch with them by phone call or cards. We will provide all the training you need. If you are interested or have any questions, please reach out to Rev. Kathy Brockman.

Flower Ministry
Separate the altar flowers after each service, placing them into new vases and distributing them on Mondays to families who have experienced a death in the family or illness. Contact La'Saundra Anderson if interested.

Funeral Ministry
Provide assistance and offer comfort to bereaved families and friends. Work with the families, friends and church staff to organize the service and prepare the sanctuary or chapel for the service. Serve as ushers and as hostesses welcoming and caring for those in attendance. Contact Rev. Kathy Brockman

Hospital and Homebound Visitors 
Hospital visitors volunteer to visit people who are unable to attend church because of hospitalization. Homebound visitors volunteer to visit people who are unable to attend church due to a condition that leaves them at home. Volunteers serve on an ongoing basis and are assigned one or two members to visit. Contact Rev. Kathy Brockman is interested. 

Prayer Ministry
The Prayer Ministry of Dunwoody UMC supports our members, visitors and the community with uplifting prayers. These volunteers use intercessory prayer, meaning they pray for others including our ministries, pastors, members in need, those on mission trips, people in need around the world and those who have specifically asked for prayer. Helping Hands Volunteer
Do you have occasional availability and a heart to serve Dunwoody UMC? We often have behind-the-scenes, but very necessary tasks that require light-duty volunteer assistance! Join DUMC’s Helping Hands Volunteers group! You will be invited to assist with various projects such as assembling Christmas candles, preparing items for Vacation Bible School, packaging star words for Epiphany, and/or segmenting Sunday giveaway items. Individuals who opt into this Helping Hands Volunteers group will be notified when a general need arises, and invited to serve. For more information contact Emily Zobrosky.

Hospitality Trailer
Serving with the DUMC Hospitality Trailer is a fun way to share the DUMC experience with our community! Sign up to be added to our list of volunteers who pull and set the trailer, who serve treats from the trailer, and/or who provide periodic maintenance to the interior and exterior of the trailer. This is a low-commitment opportunity, based on your availability, and tons of fun! For more information contact Hospitality. 

Golf Cart Driver
Join our team of enthusiastic golf cart drivers to transport members and guests that need assistance from the parking lot to the front of the church. Our drivers typically driver one 45 minute slot per month. For more information contact Hospitality. 

Welcome Desk
Our welcome desk team is there to provide information to members and visitors. Our welcome desk volunteers serve one Sunday per month (or serve as a substitute). For more information contact Hospitality. 

Ushers
Work with an usher team designated for each Sunday service and for occasional special services. Greet members and guests at each door, provide bulletins, assist with seating, tend to special needs as they arise, guide communion and collect the offering. For more information contact Hospitality. 

Greeter
Welcome our guest and members to service on Sundays. A warm smile is all you need. Greeters usually serve one Sunday per month (or serve as a substitute). For more information contact Hospitality. 
Wednesday Night Supper Servers
Volunteer servers help set-up the salad bar, serve food and welcome attendees with a smile. You can sign up for two 30-minute shifts. Contact Debbie Collins if interested.

Environmental Stewardship Committee
God has granted every one of us the responsibility to care for Creation. The United Methodist Church states clearly that we must recognize our responsibility to place a high priority on supporting ecology and sustainability of our natural world. All are welcome to work on issues related to environmental stewardship at Dunwoody UMC and throughout creation. Please check the church calendar for our next meeting. If interested contact Rev.
